Santa Claus Open

December 7, 2017 - Trustee Science Center

The 2017 Santa Claus Open gave 37 Springfield chess players the chance to meet and play a 4-round tournament with "Blitzen Time" -- 10 minutes allotted to each player per game. After 4 rounds, two players remained undefeated - Brayden Miao and Eric Ren. After a 5-minute "Super Blitzen" game, Brayden came away with a win and a 5-0 record and 5.0 points to take first place. Eric Ren finished second with 4.0 points, followed by Kai Schaefer, Leah Martin, Alan Shih, Geoffery Wortham, Ivan Hou, and Annalaise Freeman.

Thank you to all the volunteers, the parents, and supervisors that chipped in, for making the event a fun and exciting morning of chess. And finally, thank you to Bill and Janet Williams for financial support that made the tournament and other events possible.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board Chess Club is a 501(c)(3) public charity promoting the game of chess and the use of chess as a teaching tool to improve concentration, critical thinking, and good sportsmanship.
